Háry János turns 100 – Kodály's masterpiece is directed by Attila Béres at the Hungarian State Opera
To mark the centenary of its world premiere, Béres Attila stages Zoltán Kodály’s Háry János at the Hungarian State Opera. The production, starring Csaba Sándor and Gabriella Balga, is conducted by Péter Halász, while the spoken roles are performed by András Csonka and András Rusznák. The Opera Orchestra opens the season with two gala concerts
The Hungarian State Opera Orchestra begins its season with a concert marking the 142nd anniversary of the opening of the Opera House, followed a few days later by Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 8 to mark World Music Day. The Opera142 concert, featuring works by Mahler, Wagner, and György Kurtág, is conducted by principal conductor Martin Rajna on 26 and 27 September, while Mahler’s opus magnum, performed on 1 and 4 October, is conducted by János Kovács, Kossuth Prize-winning eternal member of the Opera. Love and betrayal – Le Corsaire returns to the Opera House
The Hungarian National Ballet brings to life the thrilling world of Lord Byron’s romantic narrative poem in its spectacular classical ballet Le Corsaire. The production by Anna-Marie Holmes and Tamás Solymosi is performed seven times at the Opera House between 25 September and 11 October 2026 as part of the Season of Eastern Tales. The leading roles are performed in four alternating casts by Maria Yakovleva, Tatyana Melnyik, Maria Beck, Soobin Lee, as well as Louis Scrivener, Raffaello Barbieri, Gergő Ármin Balázsi, and Luca Massara.Sept. 16, 2026, 3:05 p.m.
